Anu Komsi's broad repertoire ranges from Renaissance to contemporary music, which includes more than forty opera roles such as Nanetta, Lulu, Nightingale (Stravinsky), and Philomela (James Dillon), and encompasses a large number of orchestral works such as Mahler's Fourth Symphony, Chansons de Jeunesse (Debussy), Kafka Fragments (Kurtag), and Schoenberg's String Quartet No. 2. Several composers have written for her, including Kaija Saariaho (Leino Songs), Morton Feldman (Neither), Esa-Pekka Salonen (Wing on Wing), and George Benjamin (Into the Little Hill).
Anu Komsi has worked with such conductors as Sir Roger Norrington, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Franz Welser-Möst, Leif Segerstam, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Osmo Vänskä, and Sakari Oramo and has appeared with a number of major orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2006, Anu Komsi has led the West Coast Kokkola Opera in her hometown as co-founder and artistic director. She was honoured with an award by the Finnish Culture Foundation in 2008.
