Tuomas Katajala is one of the most versatile and sought after Scandinavian tenors and makes remarkable career equally in the opera, oratorio, concert and lied genres. In autumn 2017 Katajala made his house debut at Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Tamino. In the season 2017–18 he sang, among others, Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Komische Oper Berlin, Cosi fan tutte at the Seattle Opera and Der Fliegende Holländer in Helsinki as well as in a concertante performance with the Accademia Nationale di Santa Cecilia and under the baton of Mikko Franck in Rome and also Tamino´s role at Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden.
During season 2018–19 Katajala performed on a European tour of Der Freischütz and sang the part of Tamino (The Magic Flute) at Opéra de Lille. Current and upcoming engagements include, among others, Das Rheingold, (new Ring) at Finnish National Opera with Esa-Pekka Salonen. Season 2020–21 includes, among others, Der Fliegende Holländer in Tampere Hall and return to the London Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Recent concert highlights include Wagner’s Der Fliegende Holländer at Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Roma with Mikko Franck.
Katajala made his stage debut in 2006 at the Savonlinna Opera Festival as Tamino in The Magic Flute, followed by his house debut at Finnish national Opera as Count Libenskof in Il Viaggio a Reims. He was a member of the ensemble of Finnish National Opera from 2009 until the end of the season 2013/14. In autumn 2015 Katajala made his critically acclaimed debut at Glyndebourne Tour Opera as Ernesto in Donizetti´s Don Pasquale. Tuomas Katajala has a remarkable career as a concert and oratorio singer. He has over 90 pieces on his concert and oratorio repertory including the major works of Bach, Händel and Mozart.
