Classic FM Gramophone Award 2006 for Lindberg CD (28.09.2006)


Ondine's recording of Magnus Lindberg's Clarinet Concerto, featuring clarinetist Kari Kriikku and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra lead by Sakari Oramo, is winner of the prestigious Gramophone Awards 2006 in the category 'Best Contemporary'. The disc also contains Lindberg's Gran Duo and Chorale (ODE 1038-2).

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday September 28 at The Dorchester in London and was hosted by Gramophone editor-in-chief James Jolly.

Regarded as the Oscars of the classical music world, the Classic FM Gramophone Awards are the biggest event in the classical music industry's calendar. For the second year running in the awards' history, Gramophone – the world's oldest and most respected classical record review magazine – teamed up with Classic FM – the world's largest classical music radio station.

Magnus Lindberg (b. 1958 in Helsinki) is one of Europe's most talented young composers, and one of the most prominent representatives internationally of Finnish contemporary music. Works like his Clarinet Concerto (2002) have established Lindberg as one of the most invigorating of composers working in the orchestral field. His music is programmed by the world's leading conductors, performing organisations and festivals.
