Soile Isokoski named Kammersängerin by Austrian government (03.09.2008)


Soile Isokoski has been honoured with the title of 'Österreichische Kammersängerin' by the Austrian government. The award ceremony took place on September 2, 2008, in the premises of the Vienna State Opera, and was led by the general secretary of the Austrian Federal Theatre Association, Dr. Georg Springer, and the general manager of the Vienna State Opera, M. Ioan Holender.

Since her début as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in 1993, the Finnish lyric soprano has appeared at the State Opera in 136 performances, singing 14 different roles: Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Agathe (premiere of Der Freischütz), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Antonia (Le Contes d'Hoffmann), Liù (Turandot), Mimì (La Bohème), Rachel (premiere of La Juive), Desdemona (Otello), Feldmarschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Eva (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Micaëla (Carmen) und Elsa (premiere of Lohengrin). During September 2008, Soile Isokoski is starring in the title role in Halévy’s La Juive. She will be returning in January 2009 as Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), in May as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and in June as Marguerite (Faust). Soile Isokoski’s appointment as 'Kammersängerin' coincides with the release of her new album Scene d’amore, which includes famous love arias from operas by Tchaikovsky, Bizet, Gounod, Puccini and Verdi (ODE 1126-2).
