We are deeply saddened about the passing away of an iconic figure and one of the leading names in 21st century music, our dear friend Kaija Saariaho.
It is very hard to describe the legacy of Kaija Saariaho in just few words. Her unique artistic vision and pioneering work has inspired and empowered younger generations of composers and touched the hearts of listeners in all corners of the world. Her influence in Finnish cultural life is immeasurable.
Alongside her outstanding and award-winning artistic creations, she will also be remembered as a warm, humble, kind, and sensitive human being who took genuine interest in others and wanted to have a positive impact on the society and arts education.
Saariaho’s fruitful 30 years long collaboration with Ondine will remain as one of the cornerstones in the history of our record label.
We extend our condolences to Kaija Saariaho’s family, friends, and colleagues. And we remember with gratitude how the art and person of Kaija Saariaho has enriched our lives.
